Had a set of MacGregors for 25 years. I sucked with them, but had fun, so I kept playing with them. Since I hadn't played in the last 8-9 years I decided to donate them. Well, the golf bug kept biting me. We moved to a new house, and on a whim I posted on the neighborhood Facebook page asking if there was anyone who played and would want to get out. I figured if I drummed up enough interest, I would buy a new set. The response was so good I pulled the trigger and started shopping. I saw other sets that were beginner sets, but reviews weren't great. I came across these XR's, read the reviews that said they were designed for beginner to intermediate, and that the driver and woods were very forgiving, and lord knows I need alot of forgiving. The clubs are a bit pricey if you're used to $400-$500 sets. These were at $1600 with the sales tax.So, about the clubs... 12 clubs in the set, all left handed, all with regular flex graphite shafts, standard length. Driver (45.5" shaft), 3 wood (43" shaft), 4&5 hybrid, 6-9 irons, pitching and approach (gap) and sand wedge, and a mallet type Odyssey putter (the only club with a steel shaft). I'm 5'7" and the club lengths were perfect. It all comes in a very stylish looking stand bag, that included a rain cover and shoulder straps.Took them to a toptracer range that measures everything from ball speed to flight trajectory to distance, and you can see it all on a monitor like you see them do when you watch the pros on TV. Very cool.Took the driver out first, expecting to hit a nasty slice (I wanted to get it out of the way). My first shot was a rocket off the club. Straight, true, and LONG! It carried over 200 yards before hitting the ground and rolling an additional 40 yards. I thought it was a fluke, so I hit it again. Same result. In fact, I hit about 50 balls with the driver, and other than a few unplanned fades and draws, it was straight off the clubhead. 3 wood, same thing. Hybrids and irons, all straight. Didn't try the wedges and putter cause I didn't feel the need to. If they do what the other clubs did, my wife is going to be a golf widow very soon. I use a slower swing, but not a full swing, probably about ¾ and still got the results I did. I can't wait to get out on the course. Hopefully I get the same results.I highly, highly recommend this set!!! I'm glad I got them! If you can afford it in your budget, it's a no brainer. Don't get the new furniture or appliance. Work with your old one and get these clubs!UPDATE*Took them out on the course... GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY! Straight to slight fades and draws with the driver, straight launch with the 3 wood, irons and wedges are all phenomenal, putter is still a work in progress, but that's me more so than the putter. Hybrids are good off the tee, can't use them good yet in fairway shots. I bought a TaylorMade Stealth 4 iron to use when I'm in deep vegetation and want distance. Longest iron set comes with is a 6. Good at getting out of rough, but I wanted something to give me more distance without sending the ball into orbit, hence the 4 iron. All in all, great set! Haven't had any of the issues of breakage that I've seen some people complain about. My only nit is the driver is not adjustable, like I see they are online for sale. Does it matter? Absolutely not. My game has improved tremendously with these clubs, I highly highly recommend this set!!!
